We helped the City of Corpus Christi evaluate its alternatives regarding wastewater consolidation. In 2015-16, the City of Corpus Christi evaluated the potential for consolidation of its wastewater conveyance and treatment system from 6 plants to, potentially, as few as 2 plants. We helped the City’s consultant on this project by providing a critical evaluation of regulatory and water quality impacts associated with various scenarios of system consolidation. Using our substantial knowledge of water quality standards and regulatory issues for the Corpus Christi area, we evaluated potential changes in standards and water quality for the area that could affect the viability of consolidation. We evaluated each option for consolidation for likely permit limits, possible future water quality standards issues, and potential fatal flaws. Our evaluation report was included in the final consolidation report for the City. The City ultimately decided to retain its 6 wastewater treatment plants. However, we have continued to utilize the results of this evaluation of water quality impacts to help the City plan for its future.
