Power is always one of the top costs for operating a wastewater treatment facility. With the goal of increasing energy efficiency, APAI designed a new aeration system for the existing aeration basins. The design included replacing the existing multistage blowers with new turbo blowers, as well as replacing the older medium bubble diffusers with new fine bubble diffusers. These upgrades reduced the plant’s energy consumption by over 65 percent.
The project was funded through a partnership between the City of Denison and Schneider Electric, where Schneider Electric paid for the capital improvements and the City would repay Schneider using cost savings from reduced power bills.
